Simon Kinberg Clarifies Rogue Rumors in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’

Nearly four months after director Bryan Singer said Anna Paquin’s (True Blood) Rogue character would not appear in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, screenwriter and producer Simon Kinberg is softening the blow by backtracking on those comments…a little.

It now appears that Rogue will be making a cameo appearance, much to the delight of both X-Men fanboys (and girls) as well as fans of her former hit HBO show. Kinberg confirmed that the storyline featuring Rogue/Paquin was cut because it wasn’t pertinent to the main plot, echoing Singer’s early comments, but when asked whether she might have been in frame for anything outside of that subplot, he coyly responded, “Yes…It’s easy to imagine how that would happen.”

What that does mean is that Rogue’s cameo most likely comes in a plot-important scene, though we have no more hints about what that main plot point could be. It’s obviously something in the “modern” timeline, as Rogue is a character from the earlier films (rather than X-Men: First Class). We’re also curious if Rogue might play meaningfully into that scene. Either way it’ll be nice to see Anna Paquin back with the silver streak and the kiss of death. We’ll keep you posted with more rumors as they become available.
