Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is once again the domestic box office leader for the fourth straight week. The MCU flick continues to impress in the United States.
The latest installment in the Marvel Universe made $13.3 million in its fourth weekend. This is a 38.7% decline, according to Box Office Mojo. While this is completely normal for any film that has been out in theaters, it is still an impressive hold given the ongoing pandemic. This loss is actually only slightly different than last week when it had a 37.6% decline. It is a strong showing right before the next big blockbuster comes out.
One of the only big releases of last weekend was Dear Evan Hasen, a film adaptation of the popular Broadway Musical, which made only $7.5 million for Universal. The musical came in second behind Shang-Chi. This is the second musical of the year that has had a disappointing box office outcome. The only difference is that the reviews for Dear Evan Hansen were far less favorable than those of In the Heights.
Rounding out the top five at the domestic box office was Free Guy($4.1 million) in its seventh week, Candyman($2.5 million) in its fifth week, and Cry Macho($2.1 million) in its second week.
This will likely be the final week Shang-Chi will reign supreme as Venom: Let There Be Carnage is headed to theaters on October 1, 2021 and then following that the Bond flick No Time To Die hits the domestic box office on October 8, 2021.
However, this does not negate the truly incredible run of Shang-Chi.
