‘Shang Chi’ Sequel in the Works With Director Destin Daniel Cretton Returning

The sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is officially happening, and Destin Daniel Cretton is back to direct. Cretton, the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has signed an exclusive multi-year overall agreement with Disney’s Marvel Studios and Hulu’s Onyx Collective. The director is already working with Marvel Studios on a new MCU series for Disney+.

Shang-Chi debuted during Labor Day weekend and is the highest-grossing picture in the United States for 2021, grossing $224.5 million. The Marvel Cinematic Universe made history by including an Asian lead and a predominantly Asian cast, which included Simu Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, Meng’er Zhang and Tony Leung. So far, the film has grossed $431.9 million at the global box office, making it the eighth highest-grossing film of 2021

“Working on Shang-Chi with Kevin and the Marvel Studios team was one of the highlights of my life, and I couldn’t be more excited about Tara’s vision for Onyx Collective. I can’t wait to explore new stories and build new worlds with this community,” said Cretton.

I Am Not a Hipster is Cretton’s debut feature film, which premiered at Sundance in 2012. Before directing Shang-Chi, he directed Warner Bros. adaptation of civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson’s New York Times best-selling novel Just Mercy, which stars Michael B. Jordan, Brie Larson, and Jamie Foxx.

I did attend Long Beach City College for a couple of years, I then transferred to CSULB in 2019. I want to write something outside the normal, something no one would think to write about in a unique way. It also shows how far I am willing to go to produce something amazing that will get more readers interested in the world of Journalism. I am on my way to making a professional life for myself.
