Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg Attached to ‘Console Wars’

Following the news of the upcoming Minecraft adaptation, comic Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, 50/50) and director Evan Goldberg (This is the End, Superbad) are attached to direct and write the adaptation of the upcoming book Console Wars: Sega, Nintendo and the Battle That Defined a Generation. The film is not a videogame adaptation per se, but rather a story of the business that was conducted as the small Sega gaming company challenged the much larger, well-established Nintendo; a battle that transformed the gaming industry into the multi-billion dollar entity it is today. The film will tell the story of this transformation in videogames much the same as Moneyball narrated a pivotal change in professional baseball.

The book will be published in August 2014 by Atlantic Books; and the author Blake Harris is already drawing comparisons to Michael Lewis (author of Moneyball) for his ability to tell a non-fiction business tale with excitement and drama. In addition to supplying the source material, Harris will executive produce the film and co-direct a documentary on the same subject.

Rogen and Goldberg will produce both films along with Scott Rudin (Moneyball, The Social Network). There is currently no word on whether Rogen will also act in the film. While Console Wars would be a different film than his usual comedies, it might be fun to see Rogen show some range similar to Jonah Hill in The Wolf of Wall Street and the aforementioned Moneyball.
