Following its massive box office success this January, Scream is officially getting a sequel.
Woodsboro faced its most recent Ghostface terror in the fifth Scream installment, simply titled Scream, which saw the return of the iconic trio of Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), Gale Weathers (Courteney Cox), and Dewey Riley (David Arquette). The film also added a largely new cast of young characters, including Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jack Quaid, Dylan Minnette, Mikey Madison, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown.
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, most known for their work on Ready or Not, directed the recent installment and are set to return for the sequel. James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick will again return to pen the screenplay. It is unknown which members of the cast will return as of yet, but it’s a safe bet that at least some of the survivors will come back to face a threat once again.
Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures said in a joint statement: “We are tremendously grateful to the fans around the world who enthusiastically received our film.”
Writers Vanderbilt and Busick added, “Is this real life? Getting to collaborate once again with our friends on the next installment of the ‘Scream’ story is more than we could have hoped for. We are overwhelmed that we get to continue to play in the sandbox that Kevin and Wes created. It is, as Ghostface would say, an honor.”
Principal photography for the film is set to begin this summer.
