Sam Raimi May Direct Untitled Bermuda Triangle Film for Skydance

Skydance is currently in negotiations with Sam Raimi to direct their upcoming feature film based around the Bermuda Triangle. The plot is being kept under wraps, given that there are other major studio developing projects involving the Bermuda Triangle in the works, and each doesn’t want to give any hints to the others.

Some news sources reported that Skydance’s film is one of three films currently in development involving the Bermuda Triangle, but it seems that number may actually be closer to two. Juliet Snowden and Stiles White, who had originally signed on to write the Universal Pictures film are now on the writing team for the Skydance Picture’s film, suggesting the Universal one has been scrapped. Warner Bros. still has a separate film in development.

In order to keep plot details secret, Skydance has required any one interested in creative roles for the film to come to their office to read their select copies of the script, that do not leave their office. Skydance’s film has been in development since 2013, and at one point was trying to recruit Johnny Depp to star. The original script was written by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard, most well known as the co-writers on The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.

Raimi is most well-known for the Spider-Man series with Tobey McGuire and Kirsten Dunst, considered by many to be the first of the live-action comic superhero feature film trilogies. His last directorial role on a feature film was for 2013’s Oz: The Great and Powerful with James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel, Weisz, and Michelle Williams. Raimi was childhood friends with actor Bruce Campbell, and in his early years in the film industry was close friends with the Coen Brothers, who he collaborated with many times.
