‘Rust’ Movie Production Reaches Settlement With The Hutchins Estate

Rust Movie Production and Rust director/star Alec Baldwin have reached a settlement agreement with Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins’s estate after the deadly accident that occurred on set on October 21,  2021. The accident occurred when Baldwin fired a prop gun, after being told it was “cold” by assistant director David Halls. Unfortunately, Baldwin fired a loaded gun and Halyna Hutchins was shot.

The Hutchins family filed a wrongful death lawsuit over the shooting. The original lawsuit claimed that producers, Rust production, and others were aware of the firearm safety issues and did not take the correct precautions for a safe working environment. The case has now reached a settlement and will be dismissed.

The movie will be executively produced by Mathew Hutchins, Halyna’s widower, and is returning to production in January 2023 with the original cast on board.

When speaking on the settlement, Matthew Hutchins says “I have no interest in engaging in recriminations or attribution of blame (to the producers or Mr. Baldwin). “All of us believe Halyna’s death was a terrible accident. I am grateful that the producers and the entertainment community have come together to pay tribute to Halyna’s final work.”

Alec Balwin also spoke on the settlement, taking to Instagram.
