Two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law (last seen on screens in the literary bio Genius) appears pegged to join Rooney Mara (Carol) in the upcoming drama Vox Lux. The ambitious film, written and directed by Brady Corbet, looks to examine the rise of a pop star over the course of 15 years and will be shot on 65mm large-format film with purposes to exhibit on 70mm large-format film. Christine Vachon is among the producers of the title.
In Vox Lux, Mara would portray “Celeste” – a woman who defied an unusual set of circumstances and difficulties to become a pop sensation. Through Corbet’s inventive prism, the film looks to explore and examine the cultural touchstones during a fifteen year period of her life, with originals songs – penned by pop superstar Sia – framing the events. Law is being sought to portray Celeste’s manager. Corbet, who has an actor has appeared in a wide range of films including Clouds of Sils Maria, Melancholia and Martha Marcy May Marlene, made his directorial debut with last year’s Venice Film Festival prize-winning thriller The Childhood of a Leader.
Law will appear next year in Guy Ritchie’s amped up Camelot tale King Arthur: Legend of Sword and headlines HBO’s upcoming series The Young Pope, from director Paolo Sorrentino (Youth).
