Robin Wright Joins ‘Blade Runner’ Sequel

Emmy nominated and Golden Globe winning actress Robin Wright (A Most Wanted Man) appears to be in final negotiations to join the cast of the currently untitled Blade Runner sequel, according to an exclusive from Variety. The trade suggests the House of Cards star will join the returning Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling (The Big Short) in the upcoming sequel in a key role. However, the question is: Will she be playing a human or a replicant?

Wright’s role is under lock and key but the new Blade Runner is said to set several decades following the events in the immortal 1982 classic directed by Ridley Scott (The Martian). Original co-screenwriter Hampton Fancher came up with the story and the screenplay for the sequel alongside Michael Green (Green Lantern). The original film was famously based on Philip K. Dick’s story Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? and set in dystopian version of Los Angeles in the year 2019. Denis Villeneuve (Sicario) will direct and shooting is scheduled to start this summer. Warner Bros. is planning on releasing the film on January 12, 2018.

While Wright has most prominently been featured as of late as Kevin Spacey’s better half in the politically-based Netflix drama House of Cards, she was last seen on the screen in last year’s survival epic Everest. Wright is currently shooting the eagerly anticipated Wonder Woman for Warner Bros. portraying Diana Prince’s aunt General Antiope.

We will stay tuned the latest Blade Runner news.
