Collider reports that Robert Downey Jr. and director Shane Black are teaming up again for the first time since Iron Man 3, Marvel’s 2013 film that marked the third movie in the Iron Man franchise and the second time the duo worked together. The first was in 2005’s Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, a comedy crime movie that took the hard literary genre and gave it a cheeky twist. The duo is reportedly coming back together to work on a yet-to-be-determined film.
Although details are sparse, the film will follow the story of Parker, a fictional thief created by author Donald E. Westlake and is the protagonist in 24 out of 28 novels written by Westlake under the pseudonym Richard Stark, whose stories have been adapted to the screen many times already. Parker has inspired roles played by the likes of Lee Marvin (Point Blank), Jim Brown (The Split), Robert Duvall (The Outfit), Peter Coyote (Slayground), Mel Gibson (Payback), and Jason Statham (Parker, 2013).
Balck has written the new film for Amazon Studios and Downey Jr. is set to star as Parker. Downey Jr. in the last decade has been nefariously and almost exclusively known for his role as Tony Stark in the Marvel movies and as Dr. Dolittle in Dolittle. The film hopes to bring the popular A-lister back into the limelight, his name without question drawing fans to the theaters.
