According to Variety, many were shocked to find out Rob Zombie’s The Munsters received a PG rating due to Zombie’s work in the past. The original 1960s sitcom detailed the lives of “benign monsters” relocation to American suburbia. “For those of you speculating, wondering and assuming that ‘The Munsters’ would be dirty, violent and nasty… well, you are wrong,” Zombie stated on Instagram. “It’s all good on Mockingbird Lane.”
Zombie announced this new project last summer citing it would be a reimagined version of the original show. Jeff Daniel Phillips and Sheri Moon Zombie star as Herman and Lily Munter with Dan Roebuck playing Grandpa Munster. The film secured this PG rating due to “macabre, suggestive material scary images and language” according to Zombie’s Instagram post. His first directorial debuts occurred in the early 2000s with House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects, and in which both films secured an R rating due to their inherently dark and violent nature. However, Zombie seems committed to keeping the sitcom true to its values with his artistic direction.
The Munsters is still currently under production but sights are set on having its debut occur simultaneously in theaters and via the streaming service Peacock.
