‘Rise of the Guardians’ Director Peter Ramsey Expresses Desire To Make A Sequel

Peter Ramsey who is best known for his direction on Rise of the Guardians has expressed interest in making a sequel to the 2012 film according to Screenrant.com. The DreamWorks Animation film based on William Joyce’s children’s book was a box office failure upon its release in 2012 but experienced an afterlife of sorts developing a cult following.

Rise of the Guardians centers on childhood mythological icons such as Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost and the Easter Bunny assembling them as an Avengers-esque superhero posse. The film explores Jack Frost’s transition to a Guardian, tasked with defending childhood. The group faces off an evil boogeyman that threatens the childhood of children across the world. Despite being a critical darling, the film flopped at the box office and was never granted a continuation by Dreamworks.

While Peter Ramsey recently won an Oscar for Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, the director has been hyper-focused on delivering a sequel to Rise of the Guardians for long time fans. Ramsey confirmed that DreamWorks and Paramount are not gung ho about developing a follow up film factoring the financial loss. Ramsey however has not given up hope as he believes the fan-favorite characters “deserve another shot.”
