Hot off his win at the Golden Globes last evening, Ridley Scott (The Martian) is reportedly in talks to direct the long in-development adaptation of the 1968 British TV series The Prisoner, according to Deadline.
The television series starred Patrick McGoohan as a former government agent who resigns early only to later be kidnapped and imprisoned on a mysterious island where he is only known as “Number 6.” Those governing the island claim he can’t leave because he “knows to much” but won’t go into any more detail. The series is known for influencing a wide range of science fiction television including Lost. Scott’s science fiction background and recent success make him an ideal candidate for the project that was adapted by William Monahan (The Departed).
Along with The Prisoner, Scott is working on the Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant. Scott is also producing the sequel to his science fiction classic, Blade Runner as well as the currently on-hold Alien film to be directed by Neill Blomkamp. Scott is also working on the TV Miniseries The Hot Zone that follows the spread of the Ebolavirus.
