Richard Gelfond Confirms ‘Megalopolis’ Will Be Put Into IMAX Upon Its Release

Megalopolis, the upcoming film from acclaimed director Francis Ford Coppola, has generated excitement as it moves towards its highly anticipated release date. With the excitement, as well, comes confirmation that it will screen in IMAX upon release.

Megalopolis takes place in New York, with a recent disaster laying waste to the city. In the wake, an aspiring architect tries to put his ideas to work to rebuild the city, better than before.

A passion project for Coppola reaching as far back as 1983, Megalopolis is finally being released to audiences soon, with a screening of it even set for the Thursday night of the Cannes Film Festival.

Other films from Coppola include the three Godfather films, The Conversation, Apocalypse Now, and an adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s The Outsiders.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that Megalopolis’ IMAX run isn’t dated yet. Richard Gelfond, CEO of IMAX, confirmed that the film will be getting an IMAX distribution. Currently, it’s a matter of finding a distributor for the film in the US.

“One of the things that we pride ourselves on is being filmmaker-friendly. So we’ve committed to Francis to do a global Imax release,” Gelfond said.

Megalopolis will star Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, and Shia LaBeouf.
