No Sesame. All Street.
The upcoming The Happytime Murders, directed by Brian Henson, has released its first trailer, and in only two minutes and thirty seconds, all of our childhoods have been unapologetically and hilariously ruined.
The film in based in a world where both puppets and humans exist and live their lives, much like the classic Sesame Street, but these puppets aren’t your average Elmo or Big Bird. Their adult version of the world is filled with sex, drugs, and dangerous night-life for everyone around.
We follow Melissa McCarthy, as detective Connie Edwards, who’s been put on a case with a puppet detective. The two butt heads, but together, they are determined to figure out who is brutally killing puppets in their own city.
The trailer is filled with next-level, raunchy humor that movie-goers have never quite seen from such adorable puppets before. In the first moments, McCarthy is offered multiple sexual acts for modest prices but some down-on-their-luck felt figures. In fact, most of the jokes seem to be riddled with sexual undertones or drug-related humor.
We never thought we would see such an unusual light placed upon the loving creatures we grew up on, but now that we are all older and filled with dark-humored laughs, we have to say we are quite excited to see what other hilarious, and sometimes downright nasty, antics McCarthy and her felt friends get themselves into in this twist on a detective thriller.
Cast alongside McCarthy are Maya Rudolph, Joel McHale, Elizabeth Banks, and many other recognizable voices and faces. The film is set for theatrical release on August 17, 2018.
