Fans of Stranger Things have something to look forward to during the off-season: Rebecca Thomas (Electrick Children) has been chosen to serve as the director for the upcoming film, Intelligent Life. Considering the wild and often fantastical nature of Stranger Things, for which Thomas handled an episode, it seems like she is an appropriate choice of director, further cementing her reputation as an artist who can work with more otherworldly material.
Currently, the film promises to involve a human main character with a career based on observation of space. However they will not just be looking to the stars without any discovery of new life. Instead, they will find a potential extraterrestrial.
Along with Derek Connolly (Kong: Skull Island), Colin Trevorrow (Book of Henry) created the first version of the script. However, their work will receive some edits and rewriting, courtesy of Thomas. Connolly and Trevorrow also worked together on Jurassic World, so this was not their first collaboration on a film. Interestingly enough, it seems like Trevorrow traded one space story for another: he was initially poised to direct Intelligent Life, but when given the chance to direct Star Wars: Episode IX, he chose a galaxy far, far away.
Amblin Entertainment will produce the film, which currently has no determined release date.
