Rambo Returns to Theaters for the Last Time in “Rambo: Last Blood”

Sylvester Stallone will reprise one of his most iconic roles as John Rambo in the upcoming film Rambo: Last Blood. Rambo: Last Blood. For those unfamiliar with this franchise’s history, Rambo follows the story of John Rambo, a Vietnam veteran who uses his survival skills to evade corrupt law enforcement or, in later entires, complete covert military operations for the United States government. In Last Blood, Rambo will embark on one last mission as he journeys to Mexico to save a friend’s daughter who’s been captured by the Cartel.

The Rambo franchise begin in 1985 with the release of First Blood, an action-thriller based on the novel of the same name by author David Morrell. Over the next few decades, Rambo would spawned several sequels including Rambo: First Blood Part II, Rambo III, and a fourth film simply titled Rambo. Before Rambo: Last Blood came to be, Stallone made several attempts to get a fifth Rambo off the ground, and apparently his attempts paid off.

Further analysis by Mxdwn writer Ryan Pineada reveals the trailer’s synopsis. Beginning with an older Rambo on a farm talking about how he lived a long life, things take a dark turn as Rambo discuss how it’s time to face his past as he sharpens his iconic knife. We then see a montage of Rambo shooting guns and arrows at various thugs, all set to a more dramatic version of Billy Ray Cyrus’ Old Town Road. The trailer ends with him walking slowly covered in blood, about to stab someone, with the voiceover line “There is nothing they can do to stop it”.

Last Blood is directed by Adrian Grunberg and was co-written by Stallone and Matt Cirulnick. Alongside Stallone, the cast includes Paz Vega, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Adrianna Barraza, Yvette Monreal, Genie Kim aka Yenah Han, Joaquin Cosio, and Oscar Jaenada. You can view the first trailer below.
