Ever since a sequel to the 2016 Marvel film Doctor Strange was announced, it was speculated whether or not Rachel McAddams would revise her role as Dr. Christine Palmer. According to Deadline, it is officially confirmed that McAdams has closed deal to return in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Like most films this year, Doctor Strange has postponed the release date numerous times. Production was originally planned to begin May 2020, with a release for the same month in 2021, however, with studios closed down due the Covid 19 pandemic, that date was first moved to November 5, 2021, before being changed again to March 2021. Now the film is slated for release on March 25, 2022.
Benedict Cumberbatch will return as Doctor Strange, as well as Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. The film will be directed by Spiderman’s Sam Raimi, since original director Scott Derrickson has since left the project. Plot details are still unknown at this time, as well as how big of a role McAdams will have in the sequel. This will McAdams first project since her performance in the Netflix musical comedy Eurovision that came out this summer. She is repped by Magnolia Entertainment, WME and attorney Howard Fishman.
