In a new episode of Pure Cinema Podcast, cult favorite director Quentin Tarantino has stated that he is ready to finish his career at the top of his game. He has said that he doesn’t want to exceed more than 10 films on his resume, and so far, he’s filled his filmography with nine entries, the latest being Once Upon Time in Hollywood.
Tarantino said in a recent appearance on Real Time with Bill Maher, “That’s why I want to quit! Because I know film history and from here on in, directors do not get better.”
He also compares his career to Don Siegel’s, saying, “If he had quit his career in 1979, when he did Escape from Alcatraz, what final film! What a mic drop. But he dribbles away with two more other ones,” referring to the poorly-received Jinxed and Rough Cut. Despite approaching retirement at a younger age, Tarantino seems very aware of his impact as a filmmaker with a good rep, and he’s definitely eager to keep it that way and go out with a bang.
In the same interview, Tarantino also revealed that he wanted to do a Reservoir Dogs reboot for his final film. And previously, he was attached to Star Trek project that never materialized.
