Early projections of Quentin Tarantino‘s Once Upon Time in Hollywood have the film earning a first weekend box office of $30 million. Some projections are reaching a whopping $50 million, but compared to the opening weekends of Tarantino’s other hits- $38M for Inglourious Basterds and $30.1M for Django Unchained– it doesn’t seem likely to reach that $50M during its first weekend. There’s hope that the earnings could be higher than $30M though, because when the film made its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in France in May, critics raved about its similarity to Tatantino’s 1994 film Pulp Fiction. As of today, Rotten Tomatoes has the film at 92% fresh based on 65 reviews from varying critics.
The film follows the alcoholic actor Rick Dalton, played by Brad Pitt, as he tries to get his failing Hollywood career back on track with his stunt double best friend Cliff Booth, played by Leonardo DiCaprio. When Dalton is offered film role, he and Booth come across the Manson family and a plot to murder actress Sharon Tate, played by Margot Robbie. The film also stars Emile Hirsch, Margaret Qualley, Timothy Olyphant, Austin Butler, Dakota Fanning, Bruce Dern, and Al Pacino, among others.
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is set to be released in the United States on July 26, 2019.
