According to The Hollywood Reporter, Legendary Pictures has obtained the rights to the classic sci-fi novel Dune, which was already adapted into a successful 194 film by David Lynch. Legendary reports that they are thinking of possible film and TV projects in order to reach a wider audience.
The novel Dune was written by Frank Herbert in 1965. It’s set in a distant future where the protagonist, Paul Atreides, and his family controls the desert planet Arrakis. Arrakis produces a mysterious highly valuable resource, which all the royal families that inhabit that planet want control of. Paul and his family are soon betrayed and thus the story unfolds. It weaves a plot of politics, religion and a man’s relationship to nature, as it is up to Paul to lead a rebellion in order to restore his family’s seat on the throne.
The last time Dune was reincarnated was in 2013 with Alejandro Jodorowsky’s Dune documentary entitled, Jodorowsky’s Dune.
