‘Playmobil: The Movie’ Brings More Toys to the Big Screen

After the success of 2014’s The Lego Movie, other toy companies began attempting to get their own toy brands onto the big screen. Now German toy company Brandstätter Group has created a movie based on their toy line Playmobil, which will simply be titled Playmobil: The Movie

A trailer for the movie has already been released, as seen below. Just as everything in The Lego Movie was animated to look like it was made out of legos, everything in Playmobil: The Movie is animated to look like something from a Playmobil toy set. The trailer also reveals that Playmobil: The Movie will contain some live action scenes similar to those in The Lego Movie.

According to the trailer, Playmobil: The Movie will be focus on a brother named Charlie and sister named Marla (who appear in live action) getting magically sucked into the world of Playmobil. Marla (Anya Taylor-Joy) must embark on a journey to rescue her brother, played by both child actors Gabriel Bateman and Ryan S. Hill.

Throughout her journey, Marla encounters several interesting characters including Rex Dasher, a James Bond parody voiced by Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliff. Other cast members include Adam Lambert, Jim Gaffigan, Meghan Trainor, and Kenan Thompson. The movie is directed by Disney animator Lino DiSalvo, and was written by experienced Disney writers Greg Erb, Jason Oremland and Blaise Hemingway.

Playmobil: The Movie was made in France and will see its first release there before appearing in other European countries by the end of this summer. It’s expected to be released in the United States sometime this fall.
