Pixar’s ‘Elemental’ releases first trailer

Elemental is Pixar’s new animation film on the works directed by Peter Sohn. The feature is set in a world where elements: Fire, Water, Earth and Air are living beings with inner lives and a whole universe of their own. The first trailer was released today, through it we can get the first glimpse of the main characters Ember and Wade, the first made of fire with an outcast vibe, the second, easy-going type and made of water. Both meet while in a train.

The premise states the question about opposites attracting each other and the complexities that can bring to their lives. The trailer promises a visually attractive world full of diverse element-made characters. The vibe and animation style resembles Inside-Out and Soul.

Sohn has a wide background working at Pixar. Beyond being an animator he has also voiced some animated characters at the studio such as Emile, Remy’s gluttonous older brother in Ratatouille and Ciccio, the chubby blonde bully in Luca. He also directed Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur in 2015. Elemental will be his second credit as a director.

When asked about the inspiration for the film Sohn stated that the story was influence by his own experience as the son of Korean immigrants living in New York City:

“My Parents emigrated from Korea in the early 1970’s and built a bustling grocery store in the Bronx…We were among many families who ventured to a new land with hopes and dreams- all of us mixing into one big salad bowl of cultures, languages and beautiful little neighborhoods. That’s what led me to Elemental

Elemental is set to be released June 16, 2023. You can take a glimpse at the film below !
