Deadline reports that Michael Sarnoski, director of Pig, has been in negotiations to replace Jeff Nichols and helm the next untitled installment in A Quiet Place franchise.
The only information about the project so far is that it will be a spinoff rather than a threequel based on an idea from John Krasinski, who directed and starred in the first two films. The hope is to set up a potential Quiet Place universe that Paramount Pictures can build on for years to come. It is also known that Emily Blunt and Krasinski will likely not reprise their roles in this installment.
However, Krasinski will return to produce the next film. A Quiet Place Part II, the first post-pandemic theatrical-only release, debuted with $57 million at the domestic box office and has earned $297 million worldwide. The sequel also garnered a 91% Rotten Tomatoes score.
Sarnoski’s Pig was released last year and put him on the directing map. It has earned some awards attention as well, especially for Nicolas Cage, who may be a potential Oscar nominee in the near future.
Pig has a 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, with Sarnoski receiving the Nation Board of Review Award for Best Directorial Debut and a nomination for Best Feature at the Gotham Awards. He was also nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards’ Someone to Watch Award in addition to best first screenplay in addition to dozens of critics association nominations and wins.
