Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars: Rogue Squadron has been delayed and won’t be making its second destination in 2022. The film was supposed to begin production in 2022, but that date has been pushed back, which may have an influence on the film’s planned release date of December 22, 2023.

Rogue Squadron has been in the works for over a year at Disney with director Jenkins and writer Matthew Robinson. The film is the first big-screen Star Wars film since Disney and Lucasfilm wrapped the Skywalker nine-film saga with 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Sources told THR that the producers and filmmaking crew realized that Jenkins’ schedule and other obligations would not allow for the needed window to complete the making of the movie in 2022. There is hope that Jenkins will return to the project after she has completed her existing obligations or there’s an opening in her schedule.

It’s unclear which of Jenkins’ obligations were at fault for the delay, although she’s working on Wonder Woman 3 for Warner Bros. and a Cleopatra film for Paramount. Sources also told THR that Wonder Woman 3 was supposed to come after Rogue Squadron, but now that the Star Wars film is off the production table, that may not be the case anymore.
