Paramount Pictures has signed Damien Chazelle and Olivia Hamilton to a multi-year first-look directing and producing deal with their Wild Chickens Productions. The announcement comes on the eve of the studio’s scheduled release of Chazelles new film Babylon, the Dionysus epic set in the world of silent films which was produced by Hamilton.
Chazelle is known for writing and directing the Academy Award film La La Land, as well as Whiplash and First Man. Chazelle began his career as an undergraduate, where he made his first feature film, Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Babylon marks Hamilton’s first feature film producer. She previously produced, wrote, directed and starred in the movie Surrogate. Hamilton also directed her LA theater company PLAY, which she founded in 2013 and served as creative director. She has previously appeared in Don’t Worry He Can’t Walk Far and First Man.
Daria Serchek and Michael Ireland, co-presidents of Paramount Pictures’ Motion Picture Group, added that the company is “fully committed to Damien and Olivia’s business.” Paramount also comments to Variety “their brilliance and originality embody Paramount’s long legacy of bold and fearless filmmaking, and we couldn’t be more grateful that they’ve chosen us as partners in bringing daring, cinematic stories to audiences everywhere.”
As the Golden Globes nominations were announced yesterday, Babylon earned five nominations, including best picture in a musical or comedy. Babylon hits theaters December 23.
