Breaking News – Henry Cavill Out As Superman!

After recently announcing his return to the role, Henry Cavill announced that he would no longer be playing Superman. The announcement comes in the wake of Warner Bros. Discovery’s reshuffling of their properties and the hiring of James Gunn and Peter Safran to head DC’s film division.

Cavill announced his departure on Instagram, where he gave his best wishes for Gunn and Safran’s take on the comic book icon.

“After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn’t the easiest, but that’s life,” Cavill continued, “This changing of the guard is something that happens. I respect that. James and Peter [Safran] have a universe to build. I wish them and all involved with the new universe the best of luck, and the happiest of fortunes.”

Gunn also confirmed Cavill’s departure on Twitter and briefly described why Cavill would not fit into the new Superman film scope.

“In the initial stages our story will be focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re big fans and we talked about a number of exciting possibilities to work together in the future.”

Gunn is currently writing the new Superman film. However, there has yet to be a word about whether or not he will be directing.
