Trevor Noah, host of The Daily Show, is developing and potentially starring in remake of the 1967 political satire, The President’s Analyst, with Paramount Pictures. The remake was written by Pat Cunnane, President Barack Obama’s senior writer and deputy director of messaging.
The original film starred James Coburn as the Oval Office’s resident psychiatrist who is given a top secret assignment to help an increasingly paranoid and stressed US president. Paramount hasn’t released very much information other than that the story will be told through “the lens of the contemporary political landscape” (Deadline), so the film probably won’t be a strict remake as much as it will be a spiritual successor.
Noah isn’t known for his appearances in feature films, but he recently appeared in the Coming to America sequel, Coming 2 America. Noah also provided voice work for Marvel’s Black Panther and is currently working on an untitled animated comedy for Paramount in addition to the upcoming new satire.
Noah is producing for Day Zero Productions alongside Haroon Saleem, and Gabby Nowack is serving as executive producer on the project. Norman Aladjem, Derek Van Pelt and Sanaz Yamin are producing for Mainstay Entertainment.
It’s unclear when the film will come out, but with an ex-Whitehouse insider writing the script, it should be one to be on the lookout for.
