Paramount Pictures has officially assembled a team with financier Sister and Bohemian Rhapsody producer Graham King to capture the life and times of the iconic musical trio the Bee Gees, according to Deadline.The trio of Barry, Robin, and Maurice Gibb formed in the late 1950s but did not achieve stardom until they compiled songs for the John Travolta vehicle Saturday Night Fever which became an overnight success and gave rise to the popularity of disco. The film’s soundtrack would go on to become one of the highest selling albums ever produced, accumulating over 220 million records transforming the trio into one of the top selling bands of all time.
Paramount recently acquired legacy rights to the Gibb estate initiated by Graham King, giving the producer access to their catalog for this upcoming film. Sister, a venture created by Elisabeth Murdoch, Stacey Snider and Jane Featherstone, will serve as an additional producer on the project.
This news marks another of Paramount’s stakes in the musical biopic genre, coming off the heels of Dexter Fletcher’s Rocketman and its story of Elton John. Rocketman was met universal acclaim, mainly thanks to Taron Edgerton’s stellar performance. No further word on casting or an upcoming release date has been announced by Paramount.
