Via Deadline, Paramount Pictures, nearing the end of shooting for Mission Impossible 7, is reportedly no longer shooting the subsequent sequel, Mission Impossible 8 back-to-back, but instead will wait few months in between. The 7th film is well underway, and the change in schedule is due to Tom Cruise‘s commitment to a press tour for Top Gun: Maverick after the film was delayed for a year due to COVID-19. No release dates for either MI film have been changed.
In a post director Christopher McQuarrie, who has written and directed every Mission Impossible movie since the 5th installment, said the following on his Instagram:
“Of the many challenges we’ve faced on our journey, none will be greater than outshining the gifts Abu Dhabi has given us. On behalf of our entire cast and crew, sincerest and most heartfelt thanks to the Government of Abu Dhabi, His Excellency Mohamed Al Mubarak, the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, twofour54, Etihad Airways and CEO Tony Douglas, ADAC and CEO Shareef Al Hashmi, HM Ambassador to the UAE Patrick Moody, The United States Marine Corps and all of our incredible military personnel.”
The director seems humbled and gracious for being able tot work in an incredibly difficult time. This was clearly a huge part of the shoot, and as with every MI movie it is globe-trotting and ever action-packed. The stunts in the desert were probably incredibly hard to pull off, especially with COVID restrictions.
Her finishes by saying “And, of course, thanks to our extraordinary local cast, crew and the very fine people of Abu Dhabi. We shall most sincerely miss you until we see you again. Now back to London for a few finishing touches. All aboard for our greatest challenge yet…”
The final challenge is probably another huge stunt or just finishing up the film during a pandemic. Either way the Mission Impossible franchise is sure to bring a fun-action-packed films back to cinemas hopefully by summer.
Tom Cruise’s schedule has been changed due to the on-going pandemic. Top Gun: Maverick was originally supposed to come out Summer 2020, but has been pushed back a full year. The parties had not planned for a presser for the sequel to be delayed until 2021, but here we are.
Mission Impossible 7 is due to hit theaters November 19, 2021, while Mission Impossible 8 will hit screens November 4, 2022.
