Andy Samberg is heading back to the big screen, with the Brooklyn Nine-Nine star’s newest film Palm Springs currently in talks of being sold to Hulu for around $15 million. Neon, distributor of indie films like Parasite, hopes to sell Samberg’s film to the streaming service following its Sundance debut this past weekend.
The film stars Samberg as Nyles, a carefree man-child (Samberg’s specialty), who meets the equally nihilistic Sarah (Cristin Milioti) at her sister’s destination wedding in Palm Springs. The film’s Sundance page describes the pair as bonding through “embracing the idea that nothing really matters, and they begin wreaking spirited havoc on the wedding celebration.”
UTA Independent is currently brokering the deal, and considering the film is one of just a handful of comedies premiering at the festival this year, Palm Springs has proven itself a hot commodity. The film serves as Max Barbakow’s feature-length directorial debut and will have Samberg’s Lonely Island bandmates Jorma Taccone and Akiva Shaffer, as well as Dylan Sellers, Becky Sloviter, and Chris Parker, accompany him as producers. Additionally starring J.K. Simmons, Meredith Hagner, Camila Mendes (of Riverdale fame) and Peter Gallagher, Palm Springs should be headed for Hulu release sometime this year.
