Oscars – 7 Films in the Running for Best Make-Up and Hairstyling

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) unveiled the shortlist of seven features that will contend for Best Makeup and Hairstyling at the 2016 Academy Awards. The make-up and hairstyling branch is one of the more eclectic of the Academy- represented in past nominees that include the storied likes of Click (2006), Norbit (2007) and Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa (2013). The finalists this year don’t seem to be quite that laugh-inducing- save for the selection of The 100-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared, a feature no one has heard of.

The shortlisted features include the war-ravaged designs in The Revenant and Mad Max: Fury Road, the old-age effects of Mr. Holmes and prosthetic work featured in Black Mass and Legend. Last year, Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel won this category. On January 14, 2016- the day Oscar nominations are announced- this category will be whittled down to three contenders. The winner will announced on the Oscar telecast on February 28, 2016. Check out the full line-up below.

  • Black Mass
  • Concussion

  • Mad Max: Fury Road
  • Mr. Holmes
