Oscar Isaac Cast as Villain in ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’

Oscar Isaac (A Most Violent Year) has joined the cast of Twentieth Century Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse. He will star as the villain, Apocalypse, the most powerful mutant ever and the most menacing foe the X-Men have ever faced.

Apocalypse is the kind of mutant who can alter his molecular make-up and control technology with his mind. It has already been said by the filmmakers that X-Men: Apocalypse will be the most destructive film in the franchise to date — all too fitting considering its ultra-powerful, ancient Egyptian villain.

Twentieth Century Fox has circled the release date of May 27, 2016 for X-Men: Apocalypse, meaning it will occupy the same Memorial Day slot that worked so well for X-Men: Days of Future Past this year. Isaac will soon join the likes of Jennifer Lawrence (Silver Linings Playbook), James McAvoy (Wanted), Evan Peters (American Horror Story), and Michael Fassbender (Prometheus) when the film starts shooting in April of next year.

Bryan Singer (X-Men: Days of Future Past) is back as director, helming a script by Simon Kinberg (Elysium), from a story written by Singer, Kinberg, Michael Dougherty (Superman Returns), and Dan Harris (X-Men 2). According to Singer, “These prequels are really exciting for me because they give me a chance to explore ideas I came up with more than a decade ago.” Singer is also producing with Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner (The Wolverine), and Hutch Parker (The Darkest Hour).
