Oliver Jackson-Cohen, who stared in the Netflix television series “The Haunting of Hill House,” will soon be playing the main character in Leigh Whannel’s Invisible Man, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film previously had Johnny Depp on board to play the title character. However, after the Tom Cruise-led The Mummy failed critically and Depp left, Universal decided not to base the film on the Dark Universe, instead having it stay true to the classic monsters in the original story. Jackson-Cohen will be joining a cast featuring Elisabeth Moss, Aldis Hodge, Harriet Dyer, Storm Reid, and Harriet Dyer.
Based on the novel by H.G. Wells, The Invisible Man was first released as a film in 1933 starring Claude Rains and Gloria Stuart. It follows Dr. Jack Griffin (Rains), a scientist who discovers how to become invisible. Throughout the story, Griffin increasingly grows insane and plans on dominating the world. In an interview with THR, Moss stated that she felt that the reboot has a feminist tone featuring “female empowerment and a victim kind of overcoming something.”
Jackson-Cohen has had roles in NBC’s “Emerald City,” “Dracula,” and, more recently, British series “Man in an Orange Shirt.”Invisible Man is currently in the pre-production phase and is set to premiere on March 13, 2020.
