‘Nightcrawler’s’ Riz Ahmed in Talks for ‘Star Wars: Rogue One’

Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler) is reportedly in talks for lead role in Star Wars: Rogue One, per Badass Digest. If given the role, the actor would star opposite Ben Mendelsohn (The Dark Knight Rises) and Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything).

Concept art for the film was shown at Star Wars Celebration panel discussion last weekend. Also revealed was the film’s plot, which will revolve around the Rebel Alliance’s attempt to steal the plans for the Death Star. This, of course, would lead to the chase that opens the original film and R2-D2 and C3PO’s landing on Tattoine where they meet Luke Skywalker. It is thought that Ahmed would, like Jones, play a Rebel soldier, while Mendelsohn is playing the lead villain.

Ahmed is best known for starring opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in last year’s Nightcrawler. The actor also starred in the 2006 docudrama The Road to Guantanamo and is currently filming the British crime thriller City of Tiny Lights.

Rogue One is set to hit theaters in December of 2016 as part of Disney’s plans to alternate between the series’ chronological episodes and other, stand-alone films. The Force Awakens, the next film in the franchise, will open this December 18.
