Nicolas Cage Describes Career; “I Pursued Acting for More Than Memes”

Celebrated actor Nicolas Cage, set to star in the A24’s highly anticipated film Dream Scenario, recently shared insight into his career with The Guardian.

Cage, known for his dedication to the craft of acting, showed his sincere passion for performance.“I got into acting because I was moved by film performance more than any other art form. I didn’t get into movies to become a meme.” He continues, “I thought maybe they would compel someone to go back and look at the movies. But I had no control over it.” Drawing a parallel to his character in Dream Scenario, Cage remarked,  “The same thing happens with Paul in Dream Scenario: he has no control over this inexplicable phenomenon.”

Directed by Kristoffer Borgli, Dream Scenario offers a captivating narrative centered around the life of Paul Matthews, whose existence takes a turn when he becomes a recurring presence in strangers dreams. The movie features an impressive ensemble cast with talents such as Michael Cera and Noah Centineo.

In another interview with Yahoo! Entertainment, Cage delves deeper into his passion for acting by sharing his profound concerns about the rise of AI, saying, “It’s inhumane. You can’t get more inhumane than artificial intelligence … I would be very unhappy if people were taking my art … and appropriating [it].” The actor also mentioned that in his cameo in the film The Flash, directed by Andres Muschietti, it shows Mr. Cage fighting a giant spider. Cage explained, “I did not do that. That was not what I did.”

Dream Scenario hits theaters on November 10.
