Nick Offerman, best known for playing the overly serious Ron Swanson in the TV show Parks and Recreation, will star in a new musical titled Hearts Beat Loud. This will be Offerman’s first ever lead role in a feature film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Offerman will be playing a father who creates a singer/songwriter combo with his daughter during the summer before she heads off to college. The daughter is being played by Kiersey Clemons (Dope, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising), who is also featuring in the soon-to-be-released film Flatliners as well as The Only Living Boy in New York.
Clemons and Offerman are joined on the cast by Ted Danson (Cheers, Saving Private Ryan), Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine, The Sixth Sense), Blythe Danner (The Lucky One, Meet the Fockers), and Sasha Lane (American Honey).
The musical will feature music written by Keegan DeWitt (I’ll See You In My Dreams, Morris From America), and is being directed by Brett Haley (I’ll See You In My Dreams, The Hero). The film is being co-written by Haley and Marc Basch, who has worked on most of Haley’s films as a writer. While the film currently does not have a release date, the movie has been confirmed to start filming in New York this August.
