New Trailer for ‘Thor: Ragnarok’: Vivid Neon Visuals Dominate While Hulk Speaks and Hela Sizzles

A brand new trailer for Thor: Ragnarok debuted on the heels of the film’s appearance at SDCC this weekend. After first watch, one thing is resoundingly clear, which is that this Thor is not like the others — light, colorful, blatantly humorous, and heavily influenced by a 1980s comic book/video game aesthetic. This is large in part due to the director, Taika Waititi, and his cultivated quirky style. Known for What We Do in the Shadows and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Waititi is clearly dedicated to eccentric filmmaking that at the same time feels lived-in.

Aside from highlights of neon color and battle scenes that look straight from out of a graphic novel, some highlights from the trailer include the first words from Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), telling Thor (Chris Hemsworth) “Hulk like fire. Thor like water”; seductive Cate Blanchett as the villain and Goddess of Death Hela; and some new friends in the form of Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and surprisingly enough, the formidable Loki (Tom Hiddleston). Also peppered in is some of Waititi’s particular brand of irreverent humor, sure to make the “dark world” of Thor turn technicolor.

Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3. Check out the new trailer below, as well as the just released poster out of Comic Con.
