New Trailer for High Seas Drama ‘In the Heart of the Sea’ Surfaces

A new, action-packed trailer for the nautical drama In the Heart of the Sea has surfaced online. The film reunites star Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers) with Academy Award winning director Ron Howard (Apollo 13).  The two previously teamed on 2010’s Rush.

In the Heart of the Sea is adapted from author Nathaniel Philbrick’s 2000 award winning non-fiction book of the same name. It details the true story of the Essex, a whaling ship that is set upon by a sperm whale, essentially stranding the crew at sea and many miles from home and forcing the sailors to deal with starvation, dehydration and other obstacles while hoping for rescue. The story of the Essex is said to be the inspiration for Herman Melville’s classic seafaring novel Moby Dick.

Hemsworth is joined by Cillian Murphy (Transcendence), Benjamin Walker (The Choice), Brendan Gleeson (Suffragette) and Ben Whishaw (Skyfall).

Hemsworth has had a busy 2015, what with Avengers: Age of Ultron and Vacation having hit theaters this year, and the Ghostbusters reboot now filming. He’s set to reprise his Thor role in the upcoming Thor: Ragnarok.

Next up for director Howard is the thriller Inferno, based on the hit Dan Brown novel. He’s also finishing up an authorized Beatles documentary with his longtime Imagine Entertainment partner Brian Glazer.

In the Heart of the Sea hits theaters on December 11th.  Check out the new trailer below.
