New Trailer for DreamWorks Animation’s ‘Captain Underpants’ Adaptation Heroically Unfolds

Not all heroes wear shirts… or shoes… or pants. But at least this one still wears a cape!

20th Century Fox and DreamWorks Animation have released the first trailer for the animated “epic” movie adaptation of author Dav Pilkey’s underdressed defender of justice, Captain Underpants!

Based on the popular children’s book series, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie follows school yard pranksters and best friends George and Harold (played by Kevin Hart and Thomas Middleditch).  During one of their regular trips to the office of Principal Krupp (Ed Helms), George and Harold get the wise idea to hypnotize their principal into thinking he is their comic creation, the tightey-whitey donning hero, Captain Underpants. Cartoony superhero mishaps and misadventures are sure to ensue.

The style of animation at work here is very similar to that of Blue Sky’s 2015 The Peanuts Movie, which was also distributed by Fox. Both films maintain the comic-strip style doodles of their respective source materials, while bringing it into a another dimension in the realm of computer animation.

Directed by Turbo director David Soren, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie is also set to feature the veteran animated voices of Nick Kroll (Sing) and Jordan Peele (Storks). The film is set for a June 2nd release.

Austin Allison: Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, I have been obsessed with cartoons, animation, and film in general for as long as I've known how to talk and draw. From Disney animation to indie movies, filmmaking was always the purest form of art to me. I majored in Film and Television Studies and minored in Studio Art at the University of Arizona. The greatest aspect of studying film was developing a creative and critical eye for a medium that I had loved for so long, but couldn't explain why I loved it until now.
