New “Star Wars” Project from Damon Lindelof and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Reportedly In Development

Deadline reports screenwriter and producer Damon Lindelof has partnered with director Sharpen Obaid-Chinoy for an untitled Star Wars movie. Lindelof, known for his work on LostThe Leftovers, the Watchmen series, World War Z, and Cowboys and Aliens, is set to co-write the script. Lindelof’s writing partner has yet to be announced. It is reported, however, that Lindelof brought on Obaid-Chinoy early in the project to instill her voice and style into the project at an early stage.

Oscar and Emmy-winner Obaid-Chinoy recently worked on episodes for Disney+’s Ms. Marvel and had won awards for her shorts Saving FaceA Life Too Short, and A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness.

Since the release of 2019’s Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, Disney and Lucasfilm have focused on releasing Star Wars content on Disney+ as serialized shows. As of this writing, Andor is midway through its first season, with Ashoka, Acolyte, the second season of The Bad Batch, and the third season of The Mandalorian set to be released soon.

Lucasfilm and Disney are also planning on releasing more Star Wars projects, including series by Spider-Man director Jon Watts, a Lando series, Taika Waititi’s movie, Rian Johnson’s still-in-development trilogy, and series based on the old Droids cartoon. However, Polygon recently reported that Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron film has taken off Lucasfilm’s release schedule.
