New ‘Scream’ Trailer Out

On Christmas of 1996, the slasher horror movie Scream came out in theaters. 25 years, three sequels, and more than a few comedic parodies later, we are given the fifth and maybe final episode of this 90s classic. Paramount Pictures revealed yesterday the first official trailer for Scream, set to release sometime in 2022.

Ghostface is back with a vengeance. The spooky face that inspired a decade of Halloween masks and movie references will return to Woodsborough in 2022. The opening scene of the trailer is definitely hinting on that the new film is going to be reminiscent of the original as a young woman who plays with knives while speaking on the phone gets attacked in the safety of her home by a masked killer. The trailer goes even further down Nostalgia Alley when we see actress Neve Campbell and actor David Arquette in their original roles as Sydney Prescott and Dewey Riley, respectively. The two teenagers who survived wave after wave of the Ghostface killing spree now lead different lives but are still haunted by the past. Together, they warn the new generation of teenagers in Woodsborough about the psychopathic murderer on the loose.

Tons of new faces, all very young, and some older ones, like Courtney Cox’s character Gale Weathers, sit down together to collect their thoughts when they realize that Ghostface is exclusively hunting down teenagers who are related to the original killers. This is a huge reveal for a trailer, but it definitely works in its favor by delivering even more intrigue. From there the trailer goes on full slashing, stabbing, kicking, screaming, running-away-just-to-get-stabbed-from-the-back, shooting, and burning mode. Another big reveal before the trailer ends is Sydney Prescott’s encounter with Ghostface. We are given an extra shot of nostalgia when the murderer with the iconic mask utters his famous line: “Hello, Sydney. It’s an honor.”

An exact release date for the new Scream movie hasn’t been announced yet, but it’s expected to release late next year. Watch the trailer below!
