A Million Ways to Die in the West, the upcoming film directed, co-written by, and starring Seth MacFarlane has a new poster out that tells you everything you know. It’s got Liam Neeson as the intimidating – as if he’s ever anything but – villain; Charlize Theron as the lovely yet dangerous – as if she’s never one or both of those things – leading lady; Seth McFarlane as lead character/coward, Albert; and, most importantly it has lots and lots of sheep.
Yes, sheep are the most important part of this poster. Think about it. Sheep: those cute, yet ugly, yet delicious creatures that have an unfortunate reputation often associating them with bestiality – see Track 11 on George Carlin’s You Are All Diseased and the New Zealand film Black Sheep for reference. If properly utilized, sheep can provide pathos, disgust, and a few good laughs. The comedic possibilities are…not exactly endless, but probably numerous.
