New ‘My Little Pony’ Movie Trailer Shows Off the Power of Friendship

With Hasbro’s other popular property gracing the big screen this past week, the time has come for the ponies to have their turn. Lionsgate and Hasbro’s Allspark Productions have released a new full length trailer and poster for the official feature film debut of Equestria’s favorite alicorns, unicorns, and ponies in My Little Pony: The Movie.

Based off the global toy phenomenon’s most recent and popular incarnation of 2010’s My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, which is in its seventh season, the film will feature the show’s fan-favorite “Mane 6”, made up of Princess Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity, along with the celebrity voices of Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Liev Schreiber, Michael Peña, Sia, Taye Diggs, Uzo Aduba, and Zoe Saldana, and Sia, who performs and original song.

The synopsis reads: “A new dark force threatens Ponyville, and the Mane 6 embark on an unforgettable journey beyond Equestria where they meet new friends and exciting challenges on a quest to use the magic of friendship and save their home.”

With its rich characters and beautiful animation, this generation of “little ponies” has garnered fans of all ages around the world since its 2010 premiere, including a subculture of older male fans dubbed “Bronies”.

Families and Bronies alike can anticipate the My Little Pony: The Movie to gallop or fly into theaters on October 6th.

Austin Allison: Born and raised in Tucson, AZ, I have been obsessed with cartoons, animation, and film in general for as long as I've known how to talk and draw. From Disney animation to indie movies, filmmaking was always the purest form of art to me. I majored in Film and Television Studies and minored in Studio Art at the University of Arizona. The greatest aspect of studying film was developing a creative and critical eye for a medium that I had loved for so long, but couldn't explain why I loved it until now.
