New ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Promo Reveals Cameos for Captain Carter, Professor X, and Maria Rambeau Ahead of Release

The wait is nearly over for audiences to see the multiversal high stakes of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Marvel Studios is revealing small nuggets for audiences to chew on before they see the film. On Thursday, a new promo was released which heavily hinted at and essentially explicitly confirmed some rumored character appearances.

Marvel Studios’ What If…? streamed on Disney+ this past summer and introduced Captain Carter, a re-imagined version of Captain America if Peggy Carter (played by Hayley Atwell) had taken on the mantle instead of Steve Rogers. The appearance of Captain Carter in Multiverse of Madness has been rumored for some time (a small shard of her shield even appeared on one of the film’s posters), but this promo seems to confirm the appearance. It’s a quick shot, but Captain Carter and most notably, her shield is visibly seen during a confrontation with Wanda Maximoff.

Not only this, but the trailer also revealed another look at and another line from Charles Xavier, played by Patrick Stewart, who has been all but confirmed to return in this film. We still haven’t seen his face, but his comic-accurate yellow chair and iconic voice is enough to confirm his role.

Finally, the trailer showed a closer look at the Captain Marvel variant that has caused speculation for months now. This new look of her seems to confirm that this variant is none other than Maria Rambeau, played by Lashana Lynch. The Disney+ series WandaVision confirmed that Maria passed away from cancer in the original MCU timeline, but the multiverse gives the opportunity for her to come in from a different timeline, this time being the one with Captain Marvel’s power.

Although some of these surprise appearances have been revealed before release, there is no doubt that there will be more to surprise audiences once the film releases. Benedict Cumberbatch returns in the titular role of Stephen Strange/Doctor Strange alongside Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. The film also stars Gomez, Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor. The film releases in theaters on May 6. Watch the new TV spot below.
