New Disney Film to Feature Epcot Character Figment

A new Disney Film will feature Figment, the mascot of Epcot’s imagination Pavilion in Orlando. Figment is a small purple dragon that was created by Walt Disney Imagineers Tony Baxter and Steve Kirk, along with other collaborators in 1983.

According to Deadline, the feature comes from Seth Rogen’s Point Grey with duo Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit confirmed to write.

The figure is an epitome of imagination, which is where the name comes from. Even though Figment is one of Disney’s non-traditional characters, it has already built a devoted fanbase.

When the park attempted to remove his ride and reduce his presence around the park, fans protested to keep his presence in the park.

This will not be Figment’s first time on the big screen, he has made cameos in 2015’s Inside Out and 2019’s Toy Story 4

Both Rogen’s team and the Hernandez and Samit duo have released a lot of popular projects recently and have more coming in the near future.

Rogen and his producing partners Evan Goldberg and James Weaver have released other projects (TV and film) under their Point Grey team including Hulu’s Pam & Tommy, Amazon’s The Boys and The Boys Presents: Diabolical, as well as This Is the End, The Interview, The Disaster Artist and An American Pickle. They are soon to release Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.

Hernandez and Samit recently wrote Pokémon Detective Pikachu and 2021’s The Addams Family 2. Also developing upcoming Hulu animated series Koala Man, premiering in 2023. Other credits include Apple’s Central Park, The Tick for Amazon, and the One Day at a Time Reboot.

Figment’s movie debut is still in the early stages but fans are excited to see their favorite purple dragon on display.
