Disney has already released multiple trailers, TV spots, and posters for the upcoming sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass, preparing for its May release. Because of the $1 billion worldwide box office take of the first, the studio is of course going to invest just as much (if not more) assets into this second installment. Another full-length trailer has just been dropped, hoping to entice fans even more as well as possibly grab any newcomers that haven’t yet seen the previous footage.
The film follows the curious Alice on another wild adventure, full of strange wonders and magic, as she further explores the world of Wonderland. Mia Wasikowska returns as Alice, along with Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, and the voice of the late Alan Rickman. Sacha Baron Cohen makes his debut in the series as the physical form of Time, which appears to be the villain going against Alice and The Mad Hatter (Depp). The first film’s director, Tim Burton, is now only a producer with James Bobin (The Muppets) taking command. There’s still clearly plenty of influence from the former’s design but this new trailer particularly shows some beautiful images that look like Bobin’s style.
The footage seems wacky and peculiar but it should definitely please a big variety of audiences. It’s set for release right near the beginning of the summer blockbuster schedule, but it will be going up against stiff competition on its opening weekend with X-Men: Apocalypse, both of which are hitting theaters at the same time.
Check out the new trailer below.
Alice Through the Looking Glass opens on May 27, 2016.
