Paramount Pictures has just released the first official trailer for Scream 7, the latest installment in the beloved slasher movie franchise. The trailer sees the return of Neve Campbell’s notorious “Final Girl” character Sidney Prescott. Campbell was notably absent from previous installment Scream VI in 2023 due to a salary dispute. Now, Campbell has made her way back to the franchise under the helm of director Kevin Williamson, who is most known for his penmanship on the first four Scream films.
Beginning with 2022’s Scream, a legacy “requel”, the fifth and sixth installments of the film saw a shift in storyline and direction. Radio Silence led the two films after the unfortunate passing of horror tycoon and original director Wes Craven in 2015. While core franchise stars Campbell, along with Courteney Cox, and David Arquette made their return in supporting roles, the lead shifted to sister characters Sam and Tara, played by Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, respectively. In 2023, Barrera was regretfully fired from appearing in the next installment due to online political activism, calling for a ceasefire in support of Palestine. Shortly after, Ortega also left the project, later stating it was in support of Barrera.
After shifting from directing team Radio Silence, to then Happy Death Day‘s Christopher Landon for a short period of time, the franchise in back in the hands of its original creator Kevin Williamson. The Scream 7 trailer, released Thursday, sees more of the same. Sidney is joined again by Gale Weathers (Cox), as well as fellow returnees Chad and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy-Brown). The two minute teaser begins with a couple arriving at the infamous Macher house, the site of carnage that housed the finales of both the 1996 original as well as the 2022 film of the same name. Now an Airbnb-esque rental, the couple is quickly stalked and hunted by, you guessed it, another maniac donning the Ghostface mask and robes. Also in the trailer we see Prescott alongside her daughter Tatum (Isabel May), named after her best friend who died at the hands of the original Ghostface in the first film. The mother and daughter duo are seen hiding, and fighting back, against the new killer. The trailer ends with Ghostface drenching what looks to be the Macher house in gasoline before igniting it flames, stating “I’m gonna burn it all down.”
Also appearing in the trailer are Mckenna Grace, Joel McHale, Celeste O’Connor, and Roger L. Jackson as the voice of Ghostface. Portrayers of previously deceased characters David Arquette, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Foley were also announced to return in an unspecified capacity. Scream 7 hits theaters February 27, 2026.
