Neve Campbell has recently spoken out about reprising her role as Sidney Prescott for the seventh installation of the Scream franchise. When asked if she would return, she responded, “Given the right circumstances? Yes.”
Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega became the franchise’s new stars until Scream 7. The film was postponed due to Barrera being fired from set and Ortega’s departure because of scheduling conflicts with Wednesday. Director Christopher Landon has also dropped out, but Campbell hopes the Scream universe continues to live.
“I love this franchise,” Campbell told IndieWire. “I love it for Wes [Craven]. I love it for all the people who’ve been involved and even the newer cast. I would hope it doesn’t fall apart.”
Back in 2022, Campbell claimed she didn’t return for the sixth movie due to not being adequately compensated. “I made a statement several years ago, and it was the reason that I didn’t do the film at the time, and I just really felt the need to stand up and say that I don’t believe I would’ve been treated that way had I been a man carrying a franchise for 25 years, and that still stands.”
Despite the salary dispute, the original final girl has no ill will against the franchise. But that didn’t stop her from expressing how she felt about the decision to kill off franchise mainstay Dewey. During a panel at Monster-Mania Con, Campbell said she was “really disappointed in their choice to get rid of David [Arquette].” She continued, “Dewey’s such a wonderful character, and I think we were all in love with him, and I think we all felt pretty sad about that. Which, of course, is the reason they do it, because it has more impact, but now I miss him.”
