A new trailer has been released for The Piano Lesson. The film comes to audiences from director Malcolm Washington. The Piano Lesson focuses on an old piano that has been an heirloom for a small family through generations. As two siblings’ desire for the piano grows, so too does a divide within the family.
As Deadline pointed out, Todd Black and Denzel Washington are on the film as producers. Their attachment to this film is akin to their attachment to past films, such as Fences from 2016, which Washington directed, and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom from 2020. The film is based on a play by August Wilson, also called The Piano Lesson. This is not the first time his play has been adapted, as in 1995, a TV movie version of the story was aired, with Charles S. Dutton in the leading role.
The star-studded cast for the new take includes John David Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, Danielle Deadwyler, Ray Fisher, and Corey Hawkins, among several others. John David Washington most recently appeared in last year’s The Creator, which eventually went on to be nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards. He also appeared in Amsterdam, BlacKkKlansman, and Tenet.
